Your Philanthropy Matters

Let's work together to find a giving opportunity that is meaningful to you.

Elders Socializing

Caring for Our Seniors, Together

We want the best for our spouses, parents, grandparents, and friends as they age. But the golden years are not always golden for everyone. There are many seniors in our community who need - and deserve - our help.

With your meaningful gift to the Council on Aging Martin County, you can...

  • Help seniors find shelter
  • Deliver a hot meal, a visit and a friendly smile to seniors who are homebound
  • Provide social interaction to a senior who needs adult day club services
  • Extend a hand to seniors trying to meet basic needs
  • Reduce loneliness and isolation for those without family nearby
  • Assist families who don't know where to turn when someone they love is in crisis

  • Sustaining Partner donations monthly. Your contributions as a Sustaining Partner monthly donor multiplies the impact of your gift and helps our services continue all year long.
  • Special Gifts anytime. You can help save money on taxes by giving a gift of stock or giving through your IRA or donor advised fund. These gifts can have a big impact far into the future. Be sure to consult your financial advisor for the best tax strategies.
  • A Legacy gift that will have a huge impact far into the future. You can plan to give a gift in your will. We can help provide the simple language needed to ensure that we can carry out your wishes to include Council on Aging of Martin County, Inc. in your estate plans.
  • Gifts of Stock. Donating stock directly to Council on Aging can offer added tax benefits. You may be able to deduct the full market value of the stock and avoid capital gains tax on any appreciation. Be sure to consult your financial advisor to determine what's best for you.

Elder Woman Donating

Give through your Donor-Advised Fund (DAF)

A donor-advised fund, or DAF, has quickly become one of the most active charitable giving vehicles in philanthropy. It is a vehicle you, the donor creates, like a charitable investment account, for the sole purpose of supporting charitable organizations you care about.

When you contribute cash, securities, or other assets to a donor-advised fund at a public charity, like Fidelity Charitable or The Community Foundation Martin St. Lucie, you are generally eligible to take an immediate tax deduction. Then those funds can be invested for tax-free growth, and you can recommend grants to any eligible IRS-qualified public charity, like the Council on Aging Martin County.

Please be aware that grants from a DAF or QCD gifts from your IRA have federal restrictions on how the funds can be used, including restrictions on event tickets, prize drawings and items won at auctions. If sponsorship payment is coming from a DAF or QCD, event tickets will not be included with the sponsorship. We recommend consulting with your tax attorney concerning associated "quid pro quo" benefit.

Make a QCD From Your RMD

At age 70½ or older, one of the best ways to make a charitable contribution can be through your traditional IRA. You can use your IRA income rather than cash to make charitable gifts by making a Qualified Charitable distribution (QCD) to your favorite charity.

All you need to do is:

  • Contact your IRA administrator and authorize a direct transfer from your IRA to the Council on Aging of Martin County.
  • Have the IRA administrator make the check payable to Council on Aging of Martin County:
    • Address: 900 SE Salerno Road, Stuart, FL 34997
    • Phone: 772-223-7800
    • IF you need it, our tax ID# 52-1007762

This QCD can satisfy your required minimum distribution (RMD) for the year. It reduces your taxable income, which can help reduce your income taxes. The maximum amount for charitable distributions from your IRA cannot exceed $111,000 per calendar year. (The starting age to begin making Required Minimum Distributions (RMDs) now is 72, but QCDs still can begin at 70½.)

You can also name a 501(c)(3) public charity, like the Council on Aging, as your IRA beneficiary, to enable you to fund your charitable and legacy objectives in an efficient and effective way while potentially experiencing tax savings for your heirs and your estate.

Always consult with your financial advisor. Contact Michele Jacobs, Chief Philanthropic Officer at (772) 223-7803, to discuss this further. If you need a list of advisors, we can provide you with some local options.

“A proactive approach to brain health is vital to a good quality of life. The earlier even the mildest mental slippage is recognized and addressed, the better. Gayle and I are delighted to have founded the Mind and Memory Endowment Fund for the Council on Aging Martin County. We invite others to join the fund and help ensure the Council on Aging can continue to offer best-in-class brain health, memory care and caregiver support programs to the seniors of Martin County far into the future.”

Have You Joined Our Will Campaign?

We invite you to be part of our Legacy Society. If you love helping seniors and are proud of what we offer our community's seniors, please consider joining our Will Campaign. If you feel like you want to help secure our future, or you always wished you could do more… maybe you can! Please consider including us in your will or estate plans. It doesn't take a lot of money—just the desire to make sure that our community's seniors are valued and cared for well into the future! It's easy.

All you need to do is:

  • Our legal name: Council on Aging of Martin County, Inc.
  • Tax ID: 52-1007762
  • Address: 900 SE Salerno Road, Stuart, FL 34997

I would like to tell everyone what the Kane Center means to our family. My name is Deborah. My husband Tim has been going to the Kane Center for a long while now. He loves going and looks forward everyday to seeing his friends and the wonderful Staff. They have art lessons, brain teasers and puzzles, games, field trips, exercise sessions, he loves it all.

You should hear him talk about the food. Professional chefs prepare healthy, balanced, and a variety of hot lunches he loves to tell me about in detail every day. The impact the Kane Center has made on my husband is absolutely amazing. The once depressed, lost person is in the past. He is happy, more alert and outgoing. I can never repay the Kane Center but I will be their best cheerleader and tell everyone I know how wonderful we think they are. I thank God everyday for the Staff, and are so grateful they gave my husband back to me. I will be forever grateful.

Three years ago my husband suffered a stroke that triggered vascular dementia. I was immediately thrust into the role of full-time caregiver and provider. Fortunately, the V.A. told us about the Kane Center's Adult Day Club. What a treasure they have proven to be. It's a remarkable patient-centered haven with a devoted staff.

Their personal attention and program of varied activities has helped my husband regain and maintain skills for daily living. I have peace of mind while at work, knowing he is safe and being treated with kindness and respect. I wouldn't be able to workfull-timewithout this provision. I can't say enough positive things about the Kane Center's Adult Day Club. My husband and I would not have the quality of life we enjoy without them. I'm truly grateful for each and every person at the Center.
